Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.

Ralph Marston

My love of photography began when I received my first camera from my Dad; his Canon F-1 bought the year I was born. He taught me how to use it and I was hooked. After a few years of playing with photography as a hobby, I decided that it was the path I wanted to take with my professional life. So I quit my job and went on the hunt for a job as a photographer.

I soon landed a position as a seasonal photographer at Sears Portrait Studio. It didn’t take long to impress them with my ability behind the camera as well my customer service skills. In a few weeks I was an assistant manager, in a few months a studio manager, and a year after that (and breaking all the records for that studio and the district) I was promoted to district manager of eleven stores in the San Francisco bay area.

After a while my husband and I decided to start a family and I decided to take a break from the studio business. I enjoyed the people and the work but I was ready for a change. I still loved being behind the camera but wanted an opportunity to be more creative and see more of the world.

Thats when I decided to start Jake and Janie Photography. I figured it was a great way to capture a few of my favorite things: weddings, planning, photography, traveling and helping people preserve  their memories. It helps that it is a perfect business to run while being a full time mom.

As I was doing research into the business of shooting weddings for a living, I was dismayed at how complicated (and expensive) the process could be for a bride. I firmly believe that you should pay for quality but it seemed to me that it was getting down right silly how often brides were being nickeled and dimed to death. So I made a promise to myself that I would do my best to run a healthy business and also provide my services in as simple and affordable a fashion as I could.

Fast forward 8 years and I have shot a multitude of weddings, from Paris, France to backwater Pennsylvania and all the while helping couples capture memories that will last them a lifetime. To say I love my work would be an understatement. I thrive on the intensity of a wedding day and am there to set a bride's nerves at ease. I hope after viewing my site and reading this you will think of Jake and Janie Photography as a option for your special day.
